Stereotypes and Counter types
- A stereotype is a standardised often simplified, mental picture or attitude that is held in common by members of a group.
Representation
- Stereotypes are potentially damaging towards other social groups, but are commonly used in everyday life and are difficult to avoid.
- Stereotypes can be rather simplistic and so can be easily manipulated by the media.
- One instance of reality fitting into someone's stereotype can be reassuring, and compels people not to ponder further about their view.
